The Best Exercise Games for the Xbox Kinect

Fitness on the Xbox One: 2018 Update

It’s been a while since I’ve posted about the world of Xbox fitness, and that’s largely because of the demise of motion gaming in general. The death of the Kinect had been long rumored after Microsoft stopped requiring it to be bundled with the Xbox One, and Microsoft made it official at the end of October 2018.

One company that never lost the faith was Virtual Air Guitar Company. I’ve said it a couple times, but Kung Fu Kinect, which I first reviewed for the PS3, and then the Xbox 360, and then the Xbox One, hands down wins the prize of the best motion control game of all time–and I’ve reviewed hundreds of games for the Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. In many ways it was the pinnacle of active gaming–combining a familiar arcade-style interface with precise controls and a lot of leaping and jumping that “made you forget you were exercising”. It’s still available on the Xbox Store, and if you don’t have it, you should grab it. Heck, if you don’t have a Kinect yet, this game makes it worth it to get a Kinect on eBay while you can.

There are few more games by this company that I’ll be reviewing, including Boom Ball 3 and Air Guitar Warrior. I’ll be reviewing those soon, but then we’ll probably be folding this site into its sister site, gaming.fit, where I’ll be focusing my attention on the next new frontiers as active gaming evolves, virtual reality and mobile fitness games. Stay tuned!

I still enjoy using the xbox 360 and kinect for some fun workouts. My problem is sometimes I have to do that workout in the evenings, after we’ve gotten the kiddos to bed. I end up having to play/workout with the sound turned down. I’ve looked into the wireless/bluetooth headsets for XBox360, but hey all seem to be big and bulky. I am going to try the one ear/microphone one that holds onto your ear, but am not sure it will work the best. Any ideas on over the ear wireless/bluetooth that might work? Something like what you might use at the gym.

    Thanks
