The Best Exercise Games for the Xbox Kinect

A look into the future of fighting games

I’d previous posted my list of upcoming Kinect Fitness games for 2011. But one of the games I’m most looking forward to wasn’t on that list. It’s a game called Kung Fu High Impact, and it’ll be released in November for the Kinect.

On our sister site ps3fitness.com, we just posted a review of a game for the PS3 called Kung Fu Live. Now, Kinect users may not be impressed with the game’s use of the Playstation camera to deliver Xbox-like motion control–compared to the much more polished Kinect, the controls on the Playstation seem rudimentary.

Where this game is very impressive, though, is in how it incorporates your video image into the gameplay itself so that YOU are the main character. Some games like Dance Master attempt to do this, but at the end of the day how they incorporate your video image is really more for the background than the main game. With King Fu Live, you are the main character.

I was excited to hear that the developers of the game (Virtual Air Guitar) will be releasing Kung Fu High Impact in November. The great thing about using the Kinect is that a lot of the work for motion detection has been done for them,  so they can focus on perfecting how they incorporate your video image into the game, as well as on the gameplay. Based on what I’ve seen for the PS3, the Kinect version is definitely going to be near the top on my list of games to get for Christmas this year.
